The “Social services” project is a fixed part of the Marienau school program. To supplement learning and living in the school community, the students of 9th grade are to get to know social facilities in the region and meet people in need of help. We are certain that social commitment and the willingness to help others are important contributions to developing students’ own personalities and strengthening their own identities.
We consider seniors’ residences, kindergartens and facilities that help youths and refugees valuable extra-curricular learning sites where students can acquire important experience by personal commitment. In the course of several months they regularly spend one afternoon a week in “their” facility, accompanying the supporting staff, taking over appropriate tasks and developing relationships with people in need.
