Marienau students can actively participate in diverse individual and team sports. Some offers are always available: soccer, tennis, golf, trampoline, running, archery, volleyball and badminton; other AGs change every year.
We live soccer – Soccer is trendy – play it!
Soccer surely is the most popular team sport in Marienau. Instructed by qualified trainers, boys and girls of all ages regularly participate in training units and matches against other schools, associations and boarding schools. There also is a regular hall championship on weekends. We are actively interested in soccer away from the local synthetic lawn as well: Live Federal league transmissions in the recreation room, stadium visits in Hamburg, Bremen, Wolfsburg and Hanover or the political coverage of the role of soccer in our society (project “!NieWieder”, HSV-Museum, etc.).
Motivated soccer players from Marienau also play in regional associations or participate in the HSV soccer camp on site.
Trampoline, gymnastics, acrobatics
Gymnastics, the large air-track course and, most of all, the large trampoline have been fixed offers in the activity plan of Marienau for many years. The main target of the two large trampolines is, of course, joy in movement. In addition to this, however, students exercise their body perception, coordination, body tension and flexibility. They improve their skills and learn new things according to an individual training plan – which makes them confident in their own performance. Gabriele Hinrichs is responsible for this area and brings all athletes from this area together every year in the sport show in the scope of the summer festival, where the children and teens present their skills in the areas of gymnastics, tracour, trampoline, dance and acrobatics.
The Marienau running AG trains once per week in the area around Marienau and regularly participates in fun runs in the region in the warmer season. This includes, among others, the Lüneburger Firmenlauf, the forest and meadow run in Salzhausen and the city run in Winden/Luhe. Participation is not everything here, since the students are motivated to prove their own skills improved by training in a competition. The Dahlenburger Moorlauf in the nearby town is a special event for this. In 2016, approx. 60 students and employees participated in it.
Golf in Marienau
Once per week, students can put, tee and improve their techniques for three hours. Students can practice their tee shots on the nearby Parkland course in the Golfclub an der Göhrde. The 18-hole facility with slight hills and high trees offer something that is special for Northern Germany: It offers two courses to play on alternatingly: the “Blue Course” and the “White Course”. In winter, the short course in the Golfclub Schloss Lüdersburg can be used as well. The “greens” there are open around the year.
The Golf AG teaches beginners and advanced player together but with different targets according to their performance level. Beginners have the main target to acquire a handicap/permission to play that is required to play in golf clubs anywhere in Germany. Advanced players are those who already have their handicap. These players focus on training to improve their handicap in the course of the AG. If desired, students can also participate in tournaments.
